The Lithuanian Sports University (LSU) introduced the National Institute for Health Development (NIHD). An organized forum was attended by the Chairman of the Parliament Vydas Gedvilas, the General Director of Physical Education and Sports Department Klemensas Rimšelis, the LSU Prof. Habil. Dr. Albertas Skurvydas, the president of the NIHD Ignas Staškevičius, the partners of the Institute and the community of LSU.

Sports volunteering in Lithuania is generally associated with larger events, but there are few volunteers who work in sports organizations or small events. The Lithuanian Sports University initiated the two-week Erasmus Intensive Program "European Identity through Volunteering in Sport” (EIVoS) funded by the European Commission. The aims of the program are to identify problems and encourage volunteering.

The Parliament of Lithuania has approved to change the title Lithuanian Academy of Physical Education. By the resolution of the Parliament the former title will be renamed to Lihuanian Sports University. “The reforms that have been implemented recently received proper attention. Mokslo Scientific achievements, study programmes meet the requirements for the university. Our University is considered to be one of the best sports universities, it is the only sports university in Lithuania as well as the unique university in Baltic and Scandinavian countries. The decision made by the Lithuanian Parliament is of special importance and very satisfying, it encourages us to continue the reformation process“- claimed the Rector of LSU, prof. Albertas Skurvydas.

Lithuanian Academy of Physical Education welcomed a renowned professor Boris Gudnik from Unitec Institute of Technology (Oakland, New Zealand) and Moscow State Classic Academy (Russia) . Mr David Hunt, HM Ambassador to Lithuania visited Lithuanian Academy of Physical Education. The UK ambassador presented preparation for 2012 London Olympic Games and Paralympic Games, got acquainted with academic and research achievements at LAPE and met Lithuanian athletes who had won the pass to 2012 London Olympic Games.

A third year student of Physiotherapy of Lithuanian Academy of Physical Education Donata Vištartaitė became a twice winner of 2012 World Rowing Under 23 Championships as well as a bronze medal holder at 2012 European Rowing Championships. After four-year studies she has a break now. “I would like to finish my studies successfully and acquire as much knowledge as possible. I wouldn’t like just to get a diploma. After the most important sports events I am planning to come back to the Academy”, said Donata.

Graduation ceremony to mark the official conferral of award certificates will be held at Lithuanian Academy of Physical Education. Over 500 students graduated from the Academy, according to the data of LAPE Study Control Centre: 394 students in first degree (full-time and part-time) and 125 students – in second degree study programmes.
